The Diaconate Ministry
"Therefore, brethren, select from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task" (Acts 6:3).
The Deacons, as a group, are referred to as the “diaconate.” Deacons are called to serve and must be ordained to do so. In the Baptist Church, they serve by: (1) assisting the Pastor so that he (or she) may focus on prayer, ministry of the Word, and facilitating the spread of the gospel; and (2) conducting the benevolence and caring ministry of the Church.
Deacons fulfill their purpose through a variety of ways including, but not limited to, the following:
